Symptoms of a bad wheel bearing
When a wheel bearing fails, the most common symptom is a roaring noise that increases with vehicle speed. Most commonly we hear the roar from 40 through 80 KM. The noise may not be noticeable at low speeds and may even go away at higher speeds. As the bearing gets worse, the roar will normally grow louder and more pronounced. If we sharply cut the steering wheel to one side while driving the pitch of the noise may change. Its hard to determine which bearing by hearing, the simple way to find a bad wheel bearing: lift the vehicle, grab the coil spring with your hand and give the tire a spin with your other hand. A bad bearing causes more vibration to the spring. Compare the amount of vibration with the other side of the vehicle.
